When I first got my license many years ago, I had to do my riding test on the reliable but totally uninspiring Suzuki GN250. There wasn’t much you could do to make the GN go faster apart from throwing it off a cliff…which after riding it was what I wanted to do to it.
After I got my license (passed first go because I’m a flukey bastard) they replaced the GN with the CB250. Looked like a girls bike to me so when one of my staff asked me to help her look at a bike for her, I was hoping it wasn’t the CB. It was…and I had to test ride it for her.
I put some lippy on and a nice floral dress and took it for a spin around Bondi. The looks I was getting had more to do with a man in a dress (although not too uncommon in that part of Sydney) than how the bike looked as it certainly isn’t a looker.
The engine was good, the handling was fine, braked ok and it was cheap enough so I told her to buy it…because she was a girl.
The last couple of years though has seen the CB250 become a target for customisers and that’s a good thing if it means we get to look at the beautiful creations from a new motorcycle shop out of Zagreb, Croatia - Retro Bikes Croatia. Anything has gotta be better than looking at the stock bike.

We’re a small new opened garage in Zagreb, Croatia (EU) and this is our first project bike.
It’s a 1981 Honda CB250, purchased in good rideable condition with only 28,000 km.
The engine was left intact, all other is modified.
All necessary parts were thrown, the suspension was modified, keihins got open air filters and they were re-jetted.
The bike frame, swingarm and forks are standard (shorter springs), The front brake got steel braided hose and a modern brake master cylinder from a Honda 600. The rear shocks were modified and rear chrome fender is installed.
We modified the mufflers, made the seat, fitted it with clip-ons, Beston grips, we made the battery box.
It’s all renewed, we changed what had to be changed, new liquids, seals, brake pads, shoes, battery, tires and so on..

It’s so rare these days to be blown away by a custom bike. Usually my reaction to the latest release is “Yeh, not bad”.
Certainly wasn’t the case when I saw Keron Grant’s CB750. As soon as I saw it I emailed him and asked permission to feature it to which he said “sure”.
I didn’t ask for a run down on the bike as I just want to look at it. I’ve featured some of Keron’s art before and it always gets a great response. Looking at these pics it is evident that his creative juices are a little bit special.
A lot of thought has gone into this Japanese styled bike. Probably my favorite bike of the year so far. What about you?

Ellaspede hit the custom bike scene in Australia a year or two ago when their first bike, a custom CB350 was featured on Pipeburn with great success.
