Coffee Run - a cafe racer journey
Q:I just picked up a basket case cx500 deluxe, and I was curious if it was the same as the euro model that you mentioned to the last anon. I'm really on the fence about wanting to sell it or just keep it and turning it into a swing arm chopper. I've seen them turned into cafe racers mostly, and I was wondering if you guys had seen one chopped out?
The deluxe is the same as the standard I mentioned although bikes get called a different name in Australia compared to the rest of the world sometimes. The Euro looks quite different. Very similar to the CX650.
I haven’t seen a CX chopper/bobber but a quick google search shows up a few uglies as well as some beauties.
I would love a minimalist CX500 bobber…..one day…
Q:Hi, I quickly glanced/read an article reference the Honda CX500 Cafe Racer by Garage Project MC as I've recently bought a 1979 CX500 Trike, that I'm considering customizing slightly. Could you please tell me where I could possibly buy a gas tank like the one on the above mentioned Cafe Racer on a "Shoestring Budget" that I have. Help in this matter would be gratefully appreciated.
The tank we used was from a CX500 custom. There were at least three versions of the CX, the standard, the custom and the Euro. They aren’t interchangeable between models without modification.
A decent wreckers will have them. Also check out the CX forums.
